Every year CR asks its members about problems they have had with their vehicles in the previous 12 months. In 2020 , they received 329 000 survey responses detailing 2020 and previous year models. From this data , cr weighs the severity of each type of problem to create a predicted reliability score for each model. They also use their own road test results to come up with overall scores.

6 #hyundai
The Korean automaker hyundai comes at number 6 on CR’s ranking for Asian brands for reliability .The brand gets an overall reliability score of 62. Hyundai’s compact suv kona rated as the top model within the brand with a well above average score of 87, while tucson and palisade suvs get above average scores.
CR indicated that Hyundai dropped the problematic 1.6 liter turbo engine and dual clutch transmission from the tucson . The redesigned sonata is Hyundai’s least reliable model among its brands .
5# Acura
Honda owned acura comes at number 5 on cr’s ranking for reliable asian automaker . It is noteworthy to mention the acura rdx gets below average score due to transmission computer issues and numerous problems with freezing and blank display screens that require hardware replacement .
Consumer reports did not provide predicted reliability scores on acura’s other models such as the ilx ,the mdx and tlx since they are redesigned for the 2021 model year.

4# Honda
Honda comes at number 4 among the Asia automakers with an average score of 63. Honda hrv insight and the clarity are among the top models on cr’s reliability ratings. The midsize suv honda passport gets below average score because of transmission troubles ,some engine issues, driveline vibration issues reports of blank screen and screen freezing on the infotainment system.
3# Lexus
Toyota owned Lexus takes the number three spot with an average score of 71. CR mentions the rating was ruined by the ls sedan is much below average reliability. It has ongoing problems including the engine transmission, fuel system and in-car electronics , but all other lexus vehicles are outstanding ,especially the suvs ux , nx and lx get superb scores.
2# Toyota
Toyota ranked second with an average score of 74 .Almost all 2020 toyota models had average or better reliability except for the popular rav4 suv . It comes as a surprise the 2020 rav4 got slightly below average score of 49 mainly due to its minor transmission problems , fuel system issues in-car electronics and problems with infotainment systems . Among other suvs 4Runner and highlander got excellent scores.
1# Mazda
The Japanese brand Mazda takes the number one spot for the most reliable automaker with an average score of 83. Consumer reports believe the key to mazda’s success is that it redesigns models conservatively . The entire lineup benefits from many shared platforms and components with only modest changes during redesigns .
CR predicts all Mazda models will have above average reliability scores. The sports car mx-5 miata cx-30, cx-3 and cx-5 are the highest rated models which pushed Mazda to the number one spot.
Among the suvs the sub-compact suv cx-30 scored 95 on cr’s reliability rating, followed by the small crossover cx-3 and the compact suv cx-5 which scored 87 and 85 respectively.
Other Asian automakers genesis , subaru , nissan , infiniti and kia are in the bottom of ranking on CR’s list within asian brands by reliability.
