Sometimes things happen to your Chevy that cause the lighting on your dashboard to be disabled, which can make diagnosing the problem a bit more challenging than you think. Headlights often work fine when you have the proper information, and they usually work perfectly if you get the correct information. Whether you are having problems with your Chevrolet Blazer or Corvette, this will help you figure out why your headlights aren’t functioning.

Headlight Problems and How to Fix It

Only A Single Headlight Works

If one headlight on your Chevy is the only one working, that means the other headlight’s bulb is burning out. Check the wiring of your headlights and see if anything is wrong. If a lamp is burned out, it will start to get very dim, and filaments will be loosened from the inner ring of the light bulb.

If the light bulb looks good, it may mean that a damaged wire may be snagging a connection to that light. If you have a problem with the wires in the car, you will need to test them with a multimeter and the vehicle’s schematics.

Both Headlights Don’t Work

If the headlights on both ends are completely dead, it’d be wise to check the bulb. The more probable cause of these problems is bad fuses. Attempt to pull the headlight fuse and also try changing the fuses on the rear lights. When fuses are bad, there will be a gap in the light. You may want to test the electrical wiring with a multimeter to see how long the wires are.

If everything looks normal, you should look at the headlight relay and control module. If a system has a faulty relay, remove it and try shaking it to check if it rattles. If it rattles, change the relay. It may be very hard to find the control module you’re looking for, but if you do find it, you can test it with a multimeter.

Headlights Function, But Not Effectively

If you don’t have a headlight that gives you sufficient light for the road ahead, many problems can occur. Fogged lenses, cloudy housings, moisture in the housings, and lights that are not aimed correctly are the most frequent causes.

Remove lenses when they become foggy, when they are necessary to clean, or when they become too cloudy. To dry out the lenses, turn off the power and let the water out of the lenses by drilling a hole in the bottom of the lenses.

Turn the lights on and park about 10 feet away from the wall of the garage door to check the alignment. Low beams ought to be pointed directly forward and shouldn’t go higher than your hood line. The high beams should rise slightly above the low beams but just not significantly.

There are screws on the rear or top of the housing that you can use to adjust them if necessary. You should now consult service documentation to learn how to make modifications for your particular year and model.
