How Many Miles a Chevrolet Silverado Will Last?

One of the reasons for the popularity of pickup trucks like the Silverado, is due to their ruggedness and their ability to be abused for decades.

The automotive research firm iSeeCars conducted a study, by analyzing millions of used car sales, and backed up the claims of the Silverado’s durability. They found most Silverado trucks to last around 200,000 miles while trying to find out how many miles a Chevrolet Silverado will last.

Kelly Blue Book also reports similar figures for the Chevrolet Silverado. They gave the truck their “Five-Year Cost-to-Own Award”, and ranked it in 4th place for pickups, with 2 percent of the trucks crossing 200,000 when it comes to how many miles a Chevrolet Silverado will last. This exceeded the average for all pickups by 0.2pc.

But you might hear different opinions from confirmed consumers. According to actual owners, one can get up to 300,000 miles out of a Silverado pickup before a major overhaul is needed. However, it stands that the Silverado tops the class for longevity and durability.

Chevrolet Silverado Reliability Ratings

RepairPal has given Chevrolet a reliability rating of 3.5 out of 5.0, ranking it in 20th out of 32 amongst other car brands. The Chevrolet Silverado fares better, as it also has a reliability rating of 3.5 out of 5.0, but it is ranked at 5 out of 17 for full-size pickup trucks.

Chevrolet Silverado Maintenance Costs

The average annual repair cost according to RepairPal for a Silverado is $714, which is more than the average cost of owning a Chevrolet at $689, and the one for owning any car at $652. However, this also means it costs less to hold than an average full-size truck, which costs $936.

The probability of severe repairs and problems is more for the Chevy, at 16pc than an average of 18pc for its pickup class and 12pc for all vehicles.

However, you’ll be glad to know that Silverado drivers only need to bring their trucks in for unexpected repairs for averaging at about 0.2 times per year, which is less than an average of 0.3 times in the class and 0.4 times general.

So, while the problems faced may be significant, they’ll still be lesser in number than the rest in the Chevy Silverado. These facts will help you add more miles to your truck.

How to Make Your Silverado Last Long?

It is not enough that the Silverado is built tough and can withstand punishment. Any vehicle that needs to last long will only do so if maintained right. If it is a brand-new truck, then the engine break-in must be done correctly.

Proper maintenance also needs to be scheduled regularly, with oil and fluid changes and replacement of parts whenever it’s time. Driving and revving habits, and the conditions the truck will be driven in, also matter.

Owners also need to look out for recalls to fix damaged parts to avoid failures while on the road or severe damage of other related components.

Lastly, owners also need to prevent accidents, especially severe ones, if they’d like their truck to last by avoiding structural damage. So, a well-serviced Silverado that hasn’t been rolled over can run smoothly for hundreds of thousands of miles.
