One of the common problems that Kia Seltos owners face is the key not working. This is a problem that many people encounter at some point. This can be troublesome, especially if you are in a hurry to get somewhere. If you have this problem, it is important that you learn how to fix it. This article will help you figure out what to do.

Causes of Key Not Working on Kia Seltos

There are many possible reasons why your remote is not working on your Kia Seltos. The most common reason why this happens is because of  poor batteries in your remote control device. Whatever the reason, it is important that you take note of this and take the necessary steps to ensure that your remote control is working properly.

Battery corrosion

Corrosion on the contacts of your battery leads to reduced current flow through them and you will lose your electrical connection. The result is that your engine will no longer start properly.

If you want to clean the batteries on your Kia Seltos, you have to remove the positive and negative pole cables first. This does not require any special tools, but it does require some concentration, as the order in which you remove the cables is very important. You can do this by unplugging the black cable from the positive pole first. You must be careful not to touch any other parts of the car if using pliers. You can then begin cleaning the battery. After you have cleaned the contacts, you can start reconnecting the battery terminals.

Dirty fuel filter

Unlike a mechanical part that wears out, a fuel filter in your Seltos will become clogged with dirt and other airborne particles over time. It affects the filter’s permeability, which means that the fuel pressure will also drop. However, if the fuel filter is very dirty, the engine may no longer work at maximum performance and in some instances may not start at all. Cleaning the fuel filter is not possible, you have to change the filter.

Dead battery

If you find that your Seltos engine wont crank or that it cranks slowly, it may be caused by a weak or dead 12v battery. Investigating the problem further and doing a battery voltage test will help determine if the problem is caused by the battery or whether the problem is with the starter motor. Test the voltage between the battery poles, check the level of battery acid and see if the starter battery is good.

If a dead battery causes your Seltos to stop working, you can jump start it easily by using jumper cables and a battery from another vehicle. You can also use a battery booster if it is available.
