However, no vehicle is perfect. There have been previous with XC70 owners regarding their windshield wipers and washers. The windshield wipers of this vehicle may not work properly. Having the washers fail to function properly could be irritating for the driver. After all, these components are crucial in keeping your car clean and functioning well.
What are Windshield Washers?
Windshield wipers are components that are used to clean the windshield of your car. They can be seen as part of the windshield wiper system. These washers work together with the wiper blades to remove any dirt and debris from the windshield. This makes it easier for you to see while driving in bad weather conditions.
There are many different types of washers that are used on cars today. Each type has its own purpose and function in cleaning your windshield better than other washers do.
Though most washers use water, there are also some types that use alcohol or chemicals to clean your windshield. Regardless of what kind of washer you have, they all have one thing in common: they need a power source in order to work properly.
Issues With Windshield Washers
It is not unusual for a windshield washer to fail to work properly. When this happens, the windshield wipers are not able to clear off any dirt or debris from your windshield. This can cause poor visibility while driving and make it harder for you to see what is going on around you. Here’s what you can do if your windshield washers won’t work properly:
1) Check the fuse
Before we get into what to do if your windshield wipers won’t work, let’s first talk about the most common cause of this problem. When you have a problem with your windshield wipers, the first thing that you should do is check the fuse box in your car.
This fuse box is usually located on the driver’s side dashboard or door panel. It can be accessed by removing a panel or by turning the ignition off and then on again.
If your washers are not working properly, then you will likely see a blown fuse when you look inside this box. This means that it has been damaged or overloaded due to faulty wiring and circuit issues. When the fuse is blown, it’s usually a sign of a dead pump motor, or a motor that needs to be checked out. In the event that it blows again, replace the motor.
2) Clear the windshield nozzles from cloggings
In the event that your windshield wipers are not working properly, it’s important to check if there is any debris or dirt blocking the windshield nozzles. When there’s a lot of dirt accumulating, your wipers won’t be able to clean off the debris and will eventually just get stuck.
To do this, you will need to remove the rubber boots that are covering each of your windshield washers. You can do this by opening the hood and removing a panel in front of each wiper nozzle. This will expose them for cleaning.
Once you have removed these boots, you can use a hose to rinse out all of the old mud and dirt from inside the nozzles. After rinsing them out, reattach the rubber boots and try to start your wipers again.
3) Check the pump
If you have already checked the fuse box and your wipers are still not working, then you should check the pump. This is a small motor that works in conjunction with the wiper motors to clear the windshield.
If the fuse is good but the pump wouldn’t run, disconnect the connector at the pump and check to see if the pump still has power with a voltmeter. The pressure in your washer switch should read 12 volts. If you don’t hear the pump and the fuse is all good, it is most likely that the problem is a poor electrical connection at the pump or a bad pump.
One of the main reasons why pumps fail is that repeatedly running the motor while the reservoir is empty. So make sure that your reservoirs are full so that you can replace bad ones.
4) Check for a leaking or blocked hose
If your wipers are not working properly, then you should check to see if there is a leak or blockage in the hose. This can happen when there is debris or dirt lodged in the hose and it can get plugged up with mud, sand, or snow. If this happens, then your wipers will not be able to function properly and will stop working all together.
To test for this problem, disconnect the connector at the washer motor and check to see if there is any water running out of the hose. If there is water running out of the hose, then it’s likely that there is a blockage in it somewhere. Check all of the hoses connected to your wiper motor and make sure that they are clear of any debris before continuing.
