The XC60 offers a lot of features that you’ll find in other luxury SUVs, and it also has a lot of features that you’ll find in luxury sedans. The XC60 is also very safe and reliable, which is why many people still choose to buy Volvos even though there are many other choices on the market today. One of the features that an XC60 offers is the power operated tailgate.

What is a Power Operated Tailgate?

The power operated tailgate is a very handy feature that many people would likely find useful. The power operated tailgate is located on the rear hatch of the XC60, and it allows you to open the hatch without having to get out of your car. If you want to open the hatch, all you have to do is press a button on the side of the hatch.

If you want to close the hatch, all you have to do is press a button on the other side of the hatch. In order for this feature to work, your car must have a rear view camera that’s located in your rear view mirror.

This will allow your car’s computer system to read what’s happening behind you, and it will then adjust your hatch accordingly. If there’s someone standing behind you or if there’s something in front of your car that blocks your view, then this will allow your car’s computer system to figure out what needs to be done so that you can open or close your tailgate as needed.

With a power-operated tailgate, your luggage compartment will stay open as long as you need it to stay open. You don’t have to worry about the hatch closing before you can get your luggage out of the car, and you don’t have to worry about it closing when you don’t want it to close, nor opening when you don’t want it to open.

Issues With a Power Operated Tailgate

The problem with the XC60 is that its tailgate button doesn’t always work properly. When this happens, it can make it difficult for you to open the tailgate. If you’re having trouble opening your tailgate, then you should take a look at the tips below.

1) You’re standing too close to the trunk

One possible cause of the XC60’s tailgate button not working properly is that you’re standing too close to the trunk. If you’re standing too close to the trunk, then your tailgate button may not be able to read your proximity. When this happens, it will simply be impossible for you to open your tailgate.

Additionally, make sure that there isn’t anything near your tailgate. This means that if there’s a wall, tree, or any other object that is too close from your trunk, then it could be preventing your tailgate from opening and closing properly.

2) Pinch protection is activated

Another possible cause of the XC60’s tailgate button not working properly is that the pinch protection feature is activated. When this happens, it will prevent your tailgate from opening because your car’s computer system detects that something is giving your trunk enough resistance to prevent it from opening and closing. Additionally, an activated pinch protection should come with an acoustic signal.

Pinch protection is done so that no unwanted accidents happen, and your car is protected from possible damages. If you want to be able to open your tailgate, then you should make sure that this feature isn’t activated.

3) The buttons are faulty

Another possible cause of the XC60’s tailgate button not working properly is that the buttons are faulty. If you have a faulty button, then it will prevent your tailgate from opening or closing.

In this case, you should take a look at the button that’s on the side of your tailgate. This is the button that you have to press in order to open or close your tailgate. If you notice that this button is faulty, then you should replace it as soon as possible.

4) The fuses are broken

It is also possible that a fuse or multiple fuses that help operate your tailgate is or are broken. This will certainly explain why you’re having trouble with using your tailgate button.

If you find that this is the case, then you should replace the fuse that’s preventing your tailgate from working properly. When you’re not getting any power whatsoever, it is possible that a broken switch or wire is to blame. At this point, it may be better to reach out for assistance, because the problems are very difficult for you to resolve on your own.

5) The contact points aren’t functioning properly

The contact points that are located in your tailgate may not be functioning properly. This will prevent your tailgate from opening or closing. If you find that this is the case, then you should check to see if any of the contact points have become disconnected.

If any of the contact points have become disconnected, then you should reattach them so that they can function properly again. This will allow your tailgate to open and close as it should.
